In This Episode of Best Health, we welcome Bermudian psychologist Dr Shawnee Basden into the studio to learn about the most common types of eating disorders, and the warning signs to look out for in our children and loved ones.
Did you know that eating disorders among adolescents have doubled since the beginning of the pandemic?
Dr Shawnee Basden is on hand to explain why Covid-19 created the perfect storm for those affected by eating disorders, and what we can all do to raise awareness and provide support.
She is a Bermudian psychologist who, after considerable study overseas, has been practising back on the island since 2011.
Her education accomplishments are extensive, completing her PhD at Boston University in the US (where she was awarded the Martin Luther King Research Fellowship), followed by a pre-doctoral internship at Brown University Medical School. She then went on to complete a post-doctoral internship at Oxford University in the UK, working primarily with individuals with eating disorders.
On top of her academic achievements, Dr Basden also has a number of publications to her name, teaches classes, hosts presentations on the latest research, and supervises other clinicians in the field.
