Real talk on Men’s Mental Health Wellness with MASC BDA
Friday Oct 27, 2023
Friday Oct 27, 2023
In honor of Men's Health Month, we chat with Mr. FitzgeraldWilliams and Dr. Ernest Peets Jr. of MASC BDA about men's mental health. Join us for insights, strategies, and breaking the stigma.
Mr. Fitzgerald Williams, Founder/Therapist of MASC BDA
Meet Mr. Fitzgerald Williams, a man who, just like anyone else (even those who might not readily admit it), has faced life's unexpected challenges. There have been times when he sought counseling, especially during the toughest moments, like coping with the loss of his best friend. His journey is a testament to the effectiveness of counseling for men when done right.
Mr. Williams is no stranger to the intricacies of male-oriented psychotherapy. He understands that without the right approach, counseling for men can feel uncomfortable, frustrating, and ultimately ineffective. That's why he's dedicated to providing a non-traditional perspective on psychotherapy, fostering a trusting, non-threatening environment that places men's unique needs at the forefront.
His academic pursuits have equipped him with valuable insights. Mr. Williams earned his Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He's also certified in Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy from The Albert Ellis Institute. With nearly 15 years of exclusive experience in counseling men, he employs a "person-centered" approach that emphasizes thought processes and enhances awareness of thinking patterns to foster better behavioral outcomes.
Dr. Ernest Peets Jr., Founder/Therapist of MASC BDA
Dr. Ernest Peets Jr. brings a wealth of expertise to the table as a Certified Family Therapist and International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor. He's also a founding member of MASC Ltd. Dr. Peets Jr. has held pivotal roles, including Clinical Manager at Turning Point, Family Therapist at Child & Adolescent Services, and Drug Treatment Coordinator for Bermuda Drug Treatment Court.
A proud Bermudian, Dr. Peets Jr. embarked on his academic journey at Howard University in Washington D.C., earning a B.A. in Business in 1993. His pursuit of knowledge continued with a Master's in Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1999. In May 2008, he achieved a significant milestone by completing his doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Beyond his impressive academic achievements, Dr. Peets Jr. wears another hat as the Pastor of New Life Church of the Nazarene, a role he's embraced since 1999. His extensive counseling experience spans working with adolescents, conducting individual and group counseling, specializing in couples therapy, and providing support to individuals on the path to recovery from addiction.

Nutrition Gets Functional
Friday Jul 07, 2023
Friday Jul 07, 2023
Using food and nutrition to support human health is not new. Research suggests, however, that a food-first approach could be an important factor in healthcare of the future.
Functional nutrition is a subset of functional medicine. Functional medicine views the body as a whole, not taking issues that arise in isolation. Food has the power to heal or harm and the practice of functional nutrition centres around the individual.
In this episode of Best Health we will hear from Functional Nutritional Counselor, Christine Foster, of BEAMS Wholistic Wellness Centre, about the specialised integrative approach to nutrition and wholeness.
Christine Foster holds a Health Coach certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and also a Hormone Health Coach Certification. She also received a certification in Functional Nutritional Counselling from the Functional Nutrition Alliance.
At BEAMS Wholistic Wellness Centre, Christine works in therapeutic partnership with patients to uncover and address the root causes of their issues using proven systems and tools that embrace lifestyle and diet modifications as the core modalities of their everyday self-care.
Her role is dual in that she supports and educates patients about what is going on in their bodies and how a uniquely targeted set of modifications will help them reach their health goals.
